Another nice and simple Chinese restaurant located in Richmond. The place is pretty plain and simple inside - not too much decorations.  They have a special where if you order 3 items from the special section of the menu you can add on a full lobster for additional $20. We ordered this stir fried beef with bitter melon, braised beef in a clay pot,a soy sauce ginger chicken, and the lobster. The food all came out pretty quickly.  They even give you a complimentary soup, rice in a nice thermo too keep warm, and a complimentary dessert soup at the end (almost like an egg flower soup). The beef with bitter melon was really good (you have to like bitter melon) along with the chicken.  The braised beef was very tender and easy to eat.

    Lucky Joy BBQ Restaurant (Chinese).

Well, everything tasted fresh, but under-seasoned.

The chicken soup was pleasant; the broth was light but fresh. Not much else to say; although if you're unaccustomed to *really* Chinese (in this case, Cantonese) cuisine, you may be surprised to see chicken feet in it. Don't worry, that's normal.

The "dau miu" (snow pea tips) were actually pretty good; nice leafy texture without much sinewiness that comes from vegetables that are past their best before date. However they didn't pick out all the stringy fibres, so it was as enjoyable as say Kirin, who serves only the cream of the crop.

The scallions and ginger cold chicken (yes, cooked but then chilled chicken is a staple of Chinese cuisine) was slightly better than most, because they served it in a hot oil with soy sauce; at least it was warm. Which unfortunately also meant that the white meat became overcooked and a bit bland if not eaten quickly.

Now what I actually looked forward to: the lobster. Again, quite good: perfectly cooked, but slightly under seasoned.

We finished with the soy halibut with tofu in claypot. This was unexpectedly good; so good that we inhaled before we remembered to take a picture. Perfectly cooked, but be warned, not filleted: I spent almost as much time spitting out bones as eating it.

While this isn't *my* kind of food, I appreciate the fact that everything was fresh. There are more intensely flavoured Cantonese restaurants nearby, but if you're looking for something that tastes like a fresh, home-cooked Cantonese meal, you could do a lot worse. Service was also pretty good, and their HK style iced lemon tea hits the spot.

Recommended: halibut clay pot, lobster, HK iced tea.

    Avoid: fish bones.

No frills restaurant serving Hong Kong style fare. It's a bit off the beaten path near Cambie and No. 5 Rd, but this place can get crowded during dinner time. Parking can be an issue as the parking lot in front of the restaurant is small.

People don't go to this place for the decor or the ambiance; they come to this place because they can get food that taste just as good but costs less than the fancier restaurants. We got the 3 dish combo which includes soup, and we paid an extra $25 for ginger and scallion Dungeness crab. The crab was big and meaty, and tasted great. For the rest of the dishes, the beef and eggplant was the best out of the bunch. The both the eggplant and beef pieces were fried to a point that they were just a little crispy on the outside but plenty of moisture on the inside. We also got the steamed chicken on lotus leaf and bean sprouts, and those were good. No complains about the included soup either. Whole thing was about $100, which is not that expensive for a meal that included a whole crab.

Food is great but servers are dishonest. Watch your bill and your change. I've been short changed or charged the wrong amount multiple times. I live in the neighborhood so if it wasn't convenient and good, I wouldn't go back. The 2 stars is for the dishonesty and does not reflect the food.

Arrived at 4pm on a black Friday, I was happy to found out that there's no line up so we managed to get a table right away. This is our first time at this place though we've made several attempts without success in the past due to long waiting time during peak dinner hours. There's just 1 other table beside us so our order got taken pretty quickly. They don't serve steam items until 5pm so we didn't get steam fish/oyster which I heard is what they are good for. For dinner, they have combo set which allow you to choose 2-6 items from a large selection of dishes. Adding $25 to any of those dinner combo would give u +2 lb of crab or lobster made to your preference. I found it a great deal because for 3 ppl we've got a full table of seafood by selecting a 2 dishes dinner combo (shrimp and fish) with add on lobsters. And comes with the combo is rice, soup and dessert, everything in for ~$70, no way you get this elsewhere. Food is yummy! What's important is that they use live lobster so it's fresh.

-1 for environment and service. The same waitress who served us ended up seating and taking orders from other 5 tables so it's hard to get her attention later even if it's just to get the bill.
